They embody what we stand for and guide our approach to how we build technology.
We’re building a community of rescue advocates who are able to connect with each other in an automated, scalable way to advance the mission of making the US a no-kill nation. This can be a shelter and rescue connecting from different parts of the US to transfer an animal, an individual being connected to a local rescue to foster, our team connecting with sponsors who can fund initiatives that help move us closer to our goals, or a number of other scenarios.
We think outside of the box and take bold actions. We’re at the forefront of technological advancements and believe that technology is the game changer that’s been missing in the animal welfare space. Individuals need a modern and super easy way to get involved in the cause. Shelters and rescues need access to free technology that automates many of their manual, time intensive tasks. Communities need to see new approaches being taken to tackle challenges that have existed for decades.
We constantly ask ourselves, “Is this the MOST effective way that we can use our resources to achieve our mission?” We know it’s easy to get caught up in fighting fires, but we take the time to step back and evaluate if fighting one particular battle is the best way to spend our energy or if there’s a different activity we should focus on that will have a bigger impact on the industry as a whole. We make decisions based on data and what will have the biggest impact long term, even if that may not be the most popular move in the short term.
We conduct ourselves in a transparent manner, both internally and externally. Team members are encouraged to be direct in their feedback and reach out to whoever they need to, irrespective of roles. If we face an issue that impacts the people using our platform, we own up to it and maintain clear communication on the topic. We believe donors have a right to know how their money is spent. We’ve published annual reports about what money we made and how that money was spent since our first year. We’re a new organization and all donations to date go towards general operating expenses. Our aim is that by our third year in business we’ll be able to implement a 100% promise. This would mean that we have a few, large donors who help to cover our operating expenses and all other donations go towards expanding our presence in different states and helping our rescue partners or fosters with expenses.
We know that animal rescue is difficult and an emotional rollercoaster for all those involved. There are tough decisions being made each day, often those of life and death. We care deeply about this cause and strive to be a supportive partner to all those involved. It’s easy to point the finger and look down on certain decisions, shelters or government actions, but we believe the best path forward is to work together. The more people we have contributing their time and resources to this cause, the faster we’ll be able to help the US achieve no-kill status.
